9.5x12.5” issue for April 1927 has wonderful front cover art by Dan Smith showing scantily-clad pretty girl holding quill pen floating in space above Earth with many newspaper front pages passing by. Newspapers include New York American, Los Angeles Examiner, New York Journal, Baltimore News. Back cover has choice “Skippy” ad promoting “America’s New Sunday-Page Sensation!” Inside front cover promotes “Annie Rooney,” inside back cover promotes “Thimble Theater” by Segar. 48 bw slick paper pages with heavy emphasis on comic strip and cartoon promotion. Full page ads with specialty art include Felix the Cat daily comic strip, Barney Google and Spark Plug by Billy DeBeck, Toots and Casper by Jimmy Murphy, Jiggs in Japan, Tiny by Charles McManus and The Kid Sister by Lyman Young. Illustrated articles include "Hall of Fame" with photo of Harry Hershfield with Mayor Jimmy Walker, colorists on Sunday pages, illustrator Dan Smith, "In Defense of Slang" by Fay King and "Chat" introducing Don Marquis and John Held Jr. Issue also has nice large photo of Tom Sims looking at a Herriman Krazy Kat Sunday page original. Covers have lt. dust soil and a few lt. handling creases. Edge of spine has color rubs. Cover is VG/Fine. Last 2 inside pages and back cover have 1.25” crease, next to last page has .75” tear at lower right corner. Contents o/w Exc. Extremely limited distribution, mainly sent to newspaper editors for promotion. Historic with wonderful graphics. First we’ve offered in our 44+ years.
