Item Description
First is 9.5” tall ribbon badge with beautiful celluloid hanger suspending fabric with rippled cloth American flags, gold eagle accent, double row of brass wire tassels and gold text “Rescue No. 4, York, Penn. Sep. 1894.” Reverse has large W&H cardboard label. Exceedingly tiny split at extreme upper left where the fabric meets the brass edge of the hanger plus tiny rub mark just below the hanger’s lowest edge at the center. Fabric has lightly tanned but the piece still displays beautifully. Second item is incredible 10” tall linked badge comprised of 8 celluloid and brass segments. Top shows fire house “Good Will No. 5” with real photo celluloid inscribed “F.D. York, Pa.” Below are 5 celluloid and brass segments naming the cities of “Harrisburg/Reading/Allentown/Conshohocken/Wilmington.” Below this is 1.25” celluloid portraying a running fox with text “Fox Club York, Pa.” The large celluloid showing the fire house has a backpaper by Western Badge of Minneapolis. There is a brass bar on the reverse indicating the piece may have once had a backing ribbon but then again his extra bar could be just generic and there if its use was needed. We estimate the date on this piece to be c. 1910-1920. Scarce local issues.
