Item Description
The metal top of this piece has a brass edge and pair of clasps while the center is silvered. Depicted is jockey on galloping horse just about ready to cross the finishing line on which is erected an observation tower. Item is c. 1890s and the leather bag part of the purse remains in Exc. condition as do the metal areas. Details on the metal lid include one trailing horse head at far right while in the observation tower there are a pair of observers. Scene is bordered by ornate filigree work and the brass edge is in a basket weave design. On the interior of the lid is a slightly yellowed piece of celluloid covering a piece of paper reading “Compliments/Singer---Ephrata./Give The Other Fellow Promises/I Want Your Business/Guaranteed Clothes-Singer.” Text refers to a store in Ephrata, Pa., located in Lancaster County. Well made and VF.
