Auction #201 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1408 in auction 201
Item Description
In Auction #196 (item #634), we had a button with this same image but as a 1.25” with a dot screen photo and text “Wilmington A.A./1902.” This button is larger at 1.75” and with a real photo without dot screen and without any text. The metal back with horizontal bar pin is stamped with 1898 patent date and name of Philadelphia maker “J.H. Shaw.” The button shows 12 players with “W” logo on their uniforms. At center stands the apparent manager in a full length coat and necktie. Seated below him is a young black boy wearing a cap and before him is a reclining goat. To the left and right of the goat are a catcher’s mask at left and glove at right. The man seated to the right of the black boy holds a ball and wears a glove as does the player at the right side of the center row. Numerous but very lt. hairline scratches show only in reflected light. Button has full gloss and displays Mint.
