With absolutely no support from Chrysler Mercury outboard company founder Carl Kiekhaefer sponsored a fleet of white Chrysler 300s during the 1955 Nascar Grand National season which overwhelmed the factory-backed Chevrolets and Fords in the field. The 1956 Chrysler 300 had a similar design with the addition of the letter "B" in the tradition of labeling each subsequent model year with the next letter of the alphabet.
