Item Description
Each is 7.25x9.5" hardcover #4063 with 318 pages of identical content published by Whitman. ©1935 King Features Syndicate, Inc. First version has cover art of hatless Popeye carrying Swee’pea and suitcase through desert with cactus in background. Art is signed by creator E.C. Segar. Back cover has art of Popeye about to throw huge ruffian off cliff. Covers have a few color rubs, and some lt. dust soil with color rubs more evident on back cover. Black spine color has some color touch-ups. VG. Blank frontispiece page has .25" piece gone at bottom edge, pages have moderate aging but overall Fine. Second version has cover art of Popeye smiling at Swee’Pea and holding string which goes to balloon with title “The Big Big Book”. Back cover art has him giving Swee’Pea a drink. Left side of front cover has 3.75" seam split at top and covers have some dust soil with color rubs around edges and bumps at corner tips. Original owner has written his name and address on blank inside cover in pencil and book is missing first six pages. Inside back cover spine seam is pulling loose and has a few bits of missing surface paper. Overall Good. Both titles are scarce. Nice art throughout.
