Book is devoted to nine authors including James Whitcomb Riley, Eugene Field, Bill Nye, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Hamlin Garland, Mary Hartwell Catherwood, Will Carleton, M. Quad, Opie Read. First inside blank page has nice 2x3.25" ink inscription to Baltimore artist “To Thomas C. Corner With My Very Best Regards, A Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year Arthur Young N. Y. Dec. 1897". Title page and facing page have numerous pencil notations apparently by artist Corner which appear to be for possible second book along the same lines. Book is 2nd edition published by Frederick A. Stokes Co. NY. Covers have some lt. dust soil and scattered lt. wear, spine is tanned and a bit worn. Except for pencil notes, contents are Exc. Art Young (1866-1943) went on to become a major political cartoonist with radical leanings. Book is scarce as a signed copy. Well done. Comes with Hake's COA.
