11.5x14.25" with 226 pages. Published by Keppler & Schwarzmann 1893. Number 122 of 300 hardcovers with gold stamp "J. Keppler" name on front cover. Book features 56 cartoons chosen by Keppler as his best. Frontispiece features a portrait of Keppler who has signed in black ink "Jos. Keppler" in area just below image. Puck is widely considered America's first successful humor magazine and is best known for its satire of political issues of the day. The magazine was founded by Keppler and began publishing in March 1871. Contents include political cartoons of Ulysses S. Grant, Rip Van Winkle as the Democratic Party, Democratic Party as shipwrecked damsel about to be savaged by Tammany, the death of President James Garfield, Grover Cleveland as king of the jungle, the rise of Prohibition, and other classic images. Opposite pages has text referring to cartoon. Covers have lt. scuffs and front cover has pulled almost totally loose from spine. Overall covers Good, insides VF/Exc. High quality and extremely well done. Extremely limited distribution.
