Item Description
Three hardcovers, each from the archives of George T. Delacorte, Jr. who founded Dell publishing company. His name is stamped in gold on either bottom of front cover or spine bottom. First book is 8.5x11.5" titled on front "Hullabaloo No. 1" and contains December 1931 issue with 32 pages. Satirical contents are similar to Mad Magazine but feature photos and cartoons. Includes 5 million dollar contest page with Groucho Marx photo, Mary Pickford article revealing what tomorrow and the day after tomorrow have in store for her, Greta Garbo's dream man with photo of her and Jimmy Durante, and more. Cartoonists include Bill Holman, Jay Irving, and Farr. Second bound volume is 8-5/8x11.75" from 1932 and contains next four issues of Hullabaloo. Includes April # 2, May # 3, June # 4, July # 5. Emphasis is placed more on cartoons with a few scattered photos here and there. Cartoonists include Buford Tune, Ralph Hershberger, Bert Thomas, and E. Simms Campbell. Both volumes have bit of wear around cover edges but inside pages are clean and tight. Overall covers are Fine, contents near Exc. High quality and funny. Third volume is 6.5x9.5" containing first two issues of "Comedy" from 1938. Each has 98 pulp paper pages. First issue has cover photo of comedian Lew Lehr and second issued has cover photo of Fred Allen dressed like a country boy. Covers have lt. bumps at corners and spine tip. Fine. Inside pages are tanned with a few tiny flakes missing here and there at margin edges. Inside VG/Fine. Cartoonists include Bill Holman, Ed Graham, Ted Key, CW Anderson, E. Simms Campbell, Gluyas Williams. Nice group from an historical publisher.
