Item Description
This item is Hake # 3094 and the only badge using this photo among those shown in Hake Book III. The brass frame is 1-1/16" tall and it holds original 15/16" stickpin on reverse. Sullivan shows one example of this photo on item AL 1864-110 as a ribbon badge with a larger size frame and photo, but the photo is mis-attributed as # 3 of the six he states were used in 1864. The photo is not #3 as Lincoln is looking downward (not up) and his hairline is quite different with a noticeable point of hair on the forehead at the left. We are not sure what image Sullivan counts as # 6 (as he called this # 3) and as in the Dewitt book, the Sullivan reprint shows only five photos while stating there were six used. In any case, whether # 6 or # 7 of those used, a rarity. Very minor general age tone. Nice luster on the frame. VF.
