Item Description
c. late 1940s-early '50s. Includes 17x18" satin throw, 18x27" satin banner with fringe and felt text "Almendares Champeon" and felt image of scorpion in center and 31.25x42" satin banner. All images feature crown signifying a championship year. All have been stored folded and largest fabric has moderate color fade along fold lines and some spotting and two .25" insect holes. VG. Fringed fabric piece has a few tiny insect holds in felt lettering of word "Almendares." Fine. Satin throw has color loss to "A" in center, some fade to fold lines. VG/Fine. The Scorpions were one of the oldest and most distinguished teams in the old Cuban League which existed from 1878 to 1961. In their early history they were known by their colors as The Blues. Later they adopted the name of Scorpions. Throughout their history they had a famous rivalry with the Havana Lions. In the 71 championships in which they participated they won 25 times. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
