Item Description
This booklet for guests only at the May 27, 1961 event (JFK's 44th birthday) held at National Guard Armory, Washington, D.C. is 6x8.75" with stiff covers and 60 pages. While in storage, moisture heavily rusted the four staples, but the stains are limited to the cover spine and gutters of about half of the interior pages. Most importantly, the very large and very legible inscription by JFK is almost totally unaffected and has only a few pinpoint brown dots to the right of the "Y" of his last name. The inscription covers an area 3" tall by 5.5" long and reads "To Tommy Immer/Best Wishes/John F. Kennedy." JFK signed on the blank inside front cover opposite his photo. While the photo itself is extremely clean except for some pinpoint left margin dots and tanning around the staples, when the cover of the booklet is open showing these two pages, the gutter shows four narrow .5" vertical holes where the cover separated from the staples. The first signature of the book is loose from the cover and the two staples which held it while the other signatures of the book remain attached to the cover by one of the two staples which held them. On page two, LBJ boldly signed his photo "Lyndon B. Johnson" with 4" long blue ink autograph. Staple rust and light stain show in the gutter, but the stain stops just short of the end of the name "Johnson." The rest of the book is devoted to photos and names of Democratic Party dignitaries, names of various committee members, list of head table names, the "Program" event list which included "Address/Honorable/John F. Kennedy," and lists of sponsors, prizes and donors, and pages 13-54 alphabetically list the guests with assigned table numbers. The book's covers are tanned but the colors on the gold text and pink/gold "JFK" birthday cake remain strong. While the spine damage, particularly around the four staples is obvious, on the plus side this is a remarkably large and legible JFK autograph. With creative framing and a mat dividing the inside front cover and the first page into two panels the gutter damage could be completely hidden resulting in a clean, spectacular autograph next to a clean large photo captioned "John F. Kennedy/President Of The United States." In our last auction, a small ticket stub from this same 1961 event signed by JFK on the front and by LBJ on the back exceeded $2500.00. This JFK/LBJ signed program with outstanding large JFK inscription opens conservatively.
