Item Description
This union was the first organization in the lumber industry and began in 1886 along the east shore of Lake Michigan. The union followed the move of shingle manufacturing to the west coast area around Puget Sound and indeed this piece has metal frame at top with oval celluloid reading "9th Annual Convention Raymond, Wash. Jan. 1911." Reverse has pin plus extra bar suspending a link chain with a spring hook on the end. Another bar suspends a trio of black fabric ribbons with one of them holding a watch fob-like metal piece which bears the union name surrounding the image of a brass circular saw blade. Exc. condition and the only piece we've seen from this early organized group.
