Item Description
Group comprises all the original art from “A Deal in Wheat”, third story published in January-February 1948 issue #1 of “The Lone Ranger” Dell comic book. Comes with printed comic. Dates are June 23-July 19. Each thin art-board is approximately 7.25x26.25" with 5.75x24.75" India ink image area. All are signed in ink at bottom of one panel by longtime Lone Ranger artist Charles Flanders and 17 are also signed in ink vertically in blank right-hand margin “OK Trendle”. George Trendle created the Lone Ranger with writer Fran Striker in January 1933. The Lone Ranger is in 29 panels and also shown in disguise in 23 more panels with no mask on. Tonto is in 15 panels. Storyline has the Lone Ranger getting a job with cattlemen who plan to destroy wheat crop and cause homesteaders to leave land. The Lone Ranger and Tonto use the US Calvary to thwart the villains and stop the burning of wheat fields. Art includes some wonderful action scenes and storyline also includes the Lone Ranger’s Silver Bullet. Applied zipatone dot pattern used for shading has yellowed with age and is missing in a few places leaving glue stains. Art otherwise Fine/VF. Superb and well-drawn throughout. Comic book has clear tape along spine and has been re-stapled in four places along left spine edge. Back cover is missing 1" diagonal piece at upper left corner. Cover is Good. Inside is VG+. Nice to compare original art with printed color version. Photos of all strips online.
