Item Description
The creation of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Captain America is still an active part of the Marvel comic book universe to this day. This cover highlights what made Captain America covers so exceptional. The idea of placing the senator’s fate on the basis of a spin of the roulette wheel is pure comic book invention. As the heroes run to save the senator, their own fate is clearly in doubt. The circus theme married to the Nazi presence is an inspired way to approach the situation. The presence of a midget dressed as a clown sticking his tongue out adds a surrealistic twist to the events. Captain America was the first character of Timely Publishing to debut in his own title. That book contained his origin. He started out as a skinny little soldier named Steve Rogers. He volunteered to participate in a scientific experiment known as the super soldier serum. Thanks to enemy sabotage, he was also the only one. What emerged from this experiment was a tremendous asset to the Allies during WWII. Few heroes fought the Nazis more often or with more determination. With his sidekick Bucky, he took on every enemy that America had. Cap has managed to survive WWII, the communist menace and an iceberg to become almost as iconic as Superman and Batman. For some, he is greater than those two. The book features interior art by Simon, Kirby, and Al Avison. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified 6.5 (FN+).
