Item Description
Alex Schomburg’s cover art places the emphasis squarely on the heroics of the Human Torch, Toro, and the Sub-Mariner. Schomburg was fully capable of producing the most masterfully crowded covers possible, but this time he goes for a simpler touch. The Torch is seen running straight into a hail of bullets as the villain is trying to get away with the girl. Toro is seen popping up through the floor on the right hand side. While the cover still has three machine-gun toting villains, they don’t dominate the action the way that the Torch does. The blue background also serves the Torch well as it causes his flames to appear almost three-dimensional. This also causes the image of the Sub-Mariner along the bottom to almost jump out at the reader. At first it looks like the Sub-Mariner is just hauling a propeller. If you take a second to look behind him, there is a sub falling to the ocean’s floor! Now that is the Sub-Mariner we all know. The book also contains interior art by Burgos. The numbering of the title was corrected by Timely with issue #5. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified 8.0 (VF).
