Item Description
Cover artist Syd Shores had a great way with portraying the female in comic form; this cover serves as a perfect example. The woman looks like she could have walked off of the set of a Warners Brothers crime picture. The look in her eyes is deadly. She has poor Toro helpless in what appears to be an oxygen free crystal cage. The Torch is seen busting in at the very last minute. (Please check out Shores’ cover work on issues of the Blonde Phantom elsewhere in this auction). Take a special note of the bats in the background. Does it remind you of the origin of another hero? One even appears to have made its way indoors. The book features a back-up story with the Sub-Mariner. Al Gabriele and Jimmy Thompson contribute interior art. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM). According to the CGC census, this copy is tied with three others as the second-highest graded copy they have seen.
