Auction #183 - Part II
Item numbers 1292-2528 in auction 183
Item Description
The title is one of Timely Comics' great forgotten classics. This striking cover is by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and features the Defender racing to save the General from the clutches of a pair of evil, crazy Nazis. They intend to drop something boiling on him, shoot him, and raise him on a hook. This issue also features the origin of Major Liberty, called Mr. Liberty in this issue only. Other stories include the beginnings of Rockman, The Whizzer, and Jack Frost. This issue also contains the only appearance of the young Avenger. Simon and Kirby have also done a page of interior art. Other artists who have worked on this issue include Wolverton and Avison. The pages are off-white. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM). This copy is tied with two others as the highest graded copy they have seen.
