Auction #183 - Part II
Item numbers 1292-2528 in auction 183
Item Description
Namora was part of a small wave of super heroines that Timely was
introducing during the late forties. The idea seems to have been to boost a
flagging readership by offering female version of some of Timely’s already
established heroes. Namora was the cousin of the Sub-Mariner and shared many of
his characteristics, including the winged-feet. She was definitely a beauty.
Many credit her creation to the creator of the Sub-Mariner, Bill Everett. While
Ken Bald did draw her first adventure in Marvel Mystery Comics #82 (also offered
in this auction), it was Everett who drew most of her adventures. This issue
features a crossover with the Sub-Mariner. The issue also has interior art by
Rico. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM).
According to the CGC census, this copy is the second highest graded copy they
have seen.
