Auction #183 - Part II
Item numbers 1292-2528 in auction 183
Item Description
Brain Wave shrinks the members of the JSA down to eight inches and puts them in cages. The story, by Gardner F. Fox, features one of the most inventive problems that the JSA ever had to deal with. It is a thrill to see each member of the JSA struggle as they try to cope with their diminished physical stature. The art is solid in every instance, but the stand-out piece may be the work of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby on the Sandman segment. Wonder Woman appears at the beginning of the story to inform the other members that the records of the JSA are missing. As each segment ends, the Thunderbolt appears to pick up each hero. At the end, he brings them together and restores them to natural height. The editorial page of this issue tells readers that the War Production Board has ordered all magazines to reduce their paper use by 10%. As a result, All-Star Comics will now begin to be published eight times a year. The editors leave out the fact that the book now contains 56 interior pages instead of 64. The result of this is that several of the segments inside the story seem to have panels or a page cut from the narrative. This cut was done by the editors; the physical condition of the interior is solid. The villain, Brain Wave, will be seen in two more issues of All-Star Comics and also become a charter member of the Injustice Society. The story is written by Gardner F. Fox. Artists who worked on this issue include Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, and Sheldon Moldoff. The pages are white. The book is CGC-certified 7.5 (VF-).
