Item Description
This copy is recognized as part of the San Francisco Pedigree. The issue is noted for its incredible storyline. Both the Green Lantern and his sidekick Doiby Dickles actually join the Army. The war wasn’t a year old at the time and everyone in America wanted to do something for the cause. Why would Green Lantern and his friend be any different? The cover portrays both dressed in the uniform of the Regular Army. Doiby can be seen looking back at GL with a tremendous look of pride. Green Lantern, in his civilian identify of Alan Scott, looks straight ahead with his fist clenched, ready for anything that comes his way. Behind them a group of soldiers marches with them, each one staring straight ahead ready to do their duty. The striking cover image is considered one of the Golden Age’s most human covers. The simple scene of marching with other soldiers conveys a tremendous amount of spirit and weight. As his superhero identity hangs in the background, Alan Scott is very subtly reminding everyone that he is just as human as the reader. The pages are white. The book is CGC-certified 9.0 (VF/NM). According to the CGC census this is the highest graded copy they have seen.
