The cover is the first published picture of Superman and Batman together. It is also one of the earliest appearances by Robin on a cover. This book was published in May of 1940 and Robin had only just appeared in Detective #38, which is dated April 1940. The striking and historically important cover art was done by Jack Burnley. At 96 pages, this book is one of the earliest editions of a DC Annual. The first one had appeared in 1939. Characters appearing in this book include Superman, Red, White, Blue, Hour-Man, The Sandman, Zatara, and Johnny Thunderbolt, among others. Writers on the book include Jerry Siegel, Gardner Fox, Ken Fitch, Bob Kane, and Bill Finger.
