Item Description
The cover is the first published picture of Superman and Batman together.
It is also one of the earliest appearances by Robin on a cover. This book was
published in May of 1940 and Robin had only just appeared in Detective #38,
which is dated April 1940. The striking and historically important cover art
was done by Jack Burnley. At 96 pages, this book is one of the earliest editions
of a DC Annual. The first one had appeared in 1939. Characters appearing in this
book include Superman, Red, White, Blue, Hour-Man, The Sandman, Zatara, and
Johnny Thunderbolt, among others. Writers on the book include Jerry Siegel,
Gardner Fox, Ken Fitch, Bob Kane, and Bill Finger. Art work was provided by
Creig Flessel, Jack Burnley, Harry Lampert, Henry Boltinoff, Bernard Baily,
George Papp, and Bob Kane. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is
CGC-certified 4.5 (VG+).
