Item Description
Each is 11.5x16" tabloid newspaper with page count ranging from 32-44 with numerous articles, photos, comic strips, etc. aimed at African-American readership. Volume 47 #50 for Dec. 15, 1956 has cover photo of Jackie Robinson with text article on him receiving the 41st. Springarn Medal from the NAACP noting Robinson was introduced by Ed Sullivan and guests included heavyweight boxing champion Floyd Patterson. Vol. 48 #2 issue for Jan. 12, 1957 has front cover headline "Jackie Robinson Gets Two Top-Salary Jobs" and back cover has photo article on him quitting baseball and accepting a job with a national restaurant firm and another with "Look" magazine. Vol 48 #12 for March 23, 1957 has photos in sports section of Larry Doby getting safely to first base in Dodgers game and Johnny Covington having hand shaken after getting two run homer. Newspapers have articles on racism and discrimination including Martin Luther King, Mr. Muhammad, Malcolm X, sports, entertainment including rock and roll and society news. Tiny bit of edge wear here and there but overall group is VF. Interesting and historical.
