Item Description
On May 30, 1963, Vice-President Lyndon Johnson was keynote speaker and placed wreaths on Unknown Soldiers graves at the “Ninety-Sixth Annual Memorial Day Exercises-Centennial Year Of The Battle Of Gettysburg.” Newspaper man Harry McLaughlin took these photos, collected these items and, after the event, received back the photo he sent LBJ to sign. Lot consists of 8x10" glossy photo with large 2.75" black ink signature “Lyndon B. Johnson.” Reverse has five small masking tape pieces on edges and ink stamp of McLaughlin’s name and address of Patriot-News Co. in York, PA. Photo has a few very minor handling creases. Clean and VF. With the signed photo comes: A) “Program” for the event, 6x9", four pgs. LBJ photo on back cover. Creases but clean. B) 12 photos 3.5" square. Eight of these have front or side view of LBJ. A few include daughter Linda. One of 12 are shown. Exc. C) 8x10" of Linda, Ambassador John Rice and LBJ. McLaughlin’s information about the photo on paper slip taped on reverse. He wrote “At Parade.” D) Items not shown include two 8.5x14" pgs. of his “Remarks.” Worn but VG. There is a second 8x10" matte print same as signed example but more closeup. This has lt. 4" crease with McLaughlin’s note on reverse “1963-He’s Praying During A Benediction.” Last are two newspaper clips about the event. One from May 1963 and a second recalling event that ran upon LBJ’s death Jan. 1973. From the collection of newspaper editor Harry McLaughlin and comes with Hake's COA.
