Item Description
20.5” tall overall plaster composition with wonderful image of smiling golfer smoking pipe wearing slouch hat and knickers with text in relief on front of base. Made by Ellis Display New York City. One of several versions made, this is the 1930s version. The Penfold Man figure is based upon son of company founder A.E. Penfold and was a familiar ornament in early sporting goods stores and golf pro-shop windows. In 1931 Penfold Golf began to sponsor golf tournaments and introduced a national golfing tournament in 1932. Hat has had extensive professional restoration. Trace of tiny wear here and there with lt. dust soil. Some lt. aging. Fine overall. Great color and wonderful design.
