Item Description
High quality newsprint 17x23" with 32 pages including the covers. This German American item is a brewery union newspaper with a stunning graphic full page illustration, as pictured, and lots of great interior brewery ads. The front cover features graphics of a king sitting on a throne holding a foaming glass of beer while laborers/brewers shake hands in foreground around beer keg that reads “Working Men Of All Countries Unite.” Title of publication is in both German and English reading “Brewery Workers’ Journal.” Top text includes “Demand To Have Our Union Label On Packages Of Lager, Ale & Porter.” Smaller vignettes have caption below each including:“Brewers/Beer Drivers/Engineers/Maltsters/Bottlers/Firemen.” Additional text in German and English throughout. Left margin has four staples, possibly original, plus some added transparent archival paper tape. Repairs are minimal. The paper's last page is loose. Additional restoration would be an easy project and, of course, this item is eminently frameable. There are a multitude of brewery ads-several full page and many of smaller sizes. 14 pages in front have many ads with English text but articles on union history and brewing are mostly in German. Starting on page 19 to the end, ads and text are both mostly in English with lead article on page 19 titled “History Of The International Union Of United Brewery Workmen.” An outstanding publication with poster-like beautiful front cover. Rare.
