Item Description
Pair of cabinet photos from 1920s-1930s are each 5x7" on cardboard mount. One shows well stocked liquor store with three men behind counter with one waving and men enjoying drinks and cigars. Second photo shows "Cafe Moderno" with three men behind bar and several patrons enjoying drinks with everyone looking at camera. Mounts have scattered moisture marks and lt. wear. VG. Images are Fine. Next three cabinet photos are 7.25x9.25" with 5x7" photo in center. Mounts have text "Sloppy Joe's Bar Price 50 ¢ Each" c. 1940s. One shows crowded bar with happy people including couple standing next to large "Sloppy Joe's Rum" display bottle, the other two each show three people enjoying drinks including woman in fur coat in one photo. Trace of lt. aging. Fine/VF. Final items are photo folders from 1940s-1950s. Seven are approx. 6x8-3/8" and one is 9x11". Three are from "Tropicana" which includes larger-sized one which is also a program with photos showing interior and exterior views of the club, their casino, shows playing etc. Other clubs include "Sans Souci (three different), Casablanca, Zombie Club". Interior photos all show bar patrons. Photos were shot by house photographers to sell to tourists. Conditions range from VG to Fine. Interesting glimpse into Havana's wide open nightlife pre-Fidel Castro. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
