Item Description
11.5x17.25" thin art board has 9.5x13" India ink and colored marker image area with wonderful scene of Storm sitting at water's edge with word balloon "Happy Birthday, Mark - From Me And Ol' Fur-face Too!" Art is signed in ink at lower right "Dave Cockrum". c. 1975. Blank margins have trace of lt. dust soil but art will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. Art was done for Cockrums's friend Mark Hanerfield who published the fanzine "The Comic Reader" in the 1960s and went on to become an assistant editor at DC Comics, writer of DC's bullpen pages & librarian and later editor for Marvel's line of United Kingdom reprints. Abel, the caretaker in the House of Secrets was modeled on Hanerfield. Storm first appeared in "giant-size" X-Men #1 in May 1975 created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum. Best known as a long-time member and sometimes leader of the X-Men, Storm is the reigning queen consort of Wakanda, a title held by marriage to King T'schalla, better known as the Black Panther. Storm is one of the most frequently used X-Men, having appeared in most of the comic books, all of the animated television series, nearly all of the video games and the live action X-Men film series where she was portrayed by Halle Berry. Extremely well done image done as a birthday gift from one good friend to another.
