Item Description
8.5x11-1/8" "Published During The College Year By The Yale Record New Haven Conn." Dated April 21, 1937 with slick paper covers and 54 inside pages. First eight and last 14 inside pages are printed on slick paper, rest of pages are on pulp paper. Cover art is by McMullen showing woman being escorted by gorilla who is looking over his shoulder at man in doorway with rifle. Cover text includes "Forty Incomplete Novels And Eight Continued Novelettes, Air Feuds On The Range By Tex Randell, Dr. Zaroff And The Brides Of Mars By Dr. Zaroff, Heart Thrills Of Irma The Beautiful G-Girl". Contains wonderful satirical ads including "Do You Have Sneaker Smell?, Skinny People Have The Most Sex Appeal It's Smart To Be Skinny!, Are You Blind? Well, Why Don't You Answer?, Raise Giant Spiders, Kill Giant Spiders, False Teeth That Are Real!, Where Are My Glands?, You Can Have Bow Legs". Story titles include "I Married A Torso, I Loved My Husband's Father, Battle Aces Battle, The First Cosmic Cataclysm". Authors include You, Lozenge V. Zetgeist, Zorn Gray, Uncle Fred. Also includes collectors corner and offer of membership in "The Spicy Horror Club" showing ring with funny face which can be cut out with coupon to mail in with zero dollars with spaces to be filled out including "Racial Prejudices, Your Favorite Horrible Things, Size Of Toenails". Issue also include some regular advertising. The Yale Record was known for many years for their lampoon issues and this is actually vol. 65 #10. This is the only pulp parody issue ever done as far as we know. Covers have some lt. handling creases and lt. dust soil with bit of wear around edges. Inside pulp pages are lightly but evenly tanned though not brittle. Slick paper pages have a few moisture marks here and there. Overall VG. "Bookery's Guide To Pulps" lists this bedsheet pulp at "Good $480/VG $1200/Fine $2400". Well done with outrageous humor. Scarce.
