Item Description
With 24 pages of art by Wallace Wood, this is an exceptional book. In addition, Gene Fawcette has created a classic looking science fiction cover. With the explosion of the atom bomb, the feel of science fiction began to change. Suddenly the monsters that spacemen had to fight were giant ants and lizards and spiders. This incredible cover incorporates several favorite themes from that era: a giant ant, a scantily clad woman in danger and a spaceman rushing to save her. The action seems to be taking place in cornfield of sorts; this earthbound reality adds to the reader’s ability to identify with the situation. Take note of the wings on the woman as well as the spaceman. The story was reprinted several years later in Strange Planets Super Reprint #11. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 7.5 (VF-).
