Item Description
There are 13 known copies of this book. It has been listed as scarce since the third edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Considering that edition came out over thirty years ago, this is a long time for a promotional book to be listed as a scarce. Several years ago, CGC attempted to locate every known copy of this book by offering free certification of each copy they were sent. Eventually, they certified a total of twelve copies. They did find a thirteenth with some apparent restoration. (Five b&w copies also turned up in the publisher's files). The scarcity of the book is not the only factor contributing to its desirability, as the subject matter itself makes this giveaway notorious in its own right. Published by the Catechetical Guild, the book makes no bones about the terrors of communism. Today, some may judge the book for its overly serious tone, however, in 1950, communism was an urgent and very sensitive topic. This book serves as an important reminder of a different time in America. The publisher had made a name for itself while publishing Topix Comics, which promised to be "Timeless, Truthful, Telling." After publishing this promotional giveaway, they continued with titles such as Our Lady of Fatima and God's Heroes in America. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.2 (NM-). According to the CGC Census, this is the third highest certified copy.
