Item Description
1". This is Sullivan JB 1860-46 and a mate to Sullivan AL 1860-128. The brass rim was once silvered and traces remain, mostly on the Everett side. The frame surrounding the Bell ferrotype has "John Bell" at the top while below on the left is "18" and on the right "60" with slogan below "And The Constitution." There is loss of detail on his forehead and most detail of the right eye are gone although most detailing of the left eye remains. There is an additional tiny black dot on his chin and slight wear scattered around the background most noticeably a thin line on the far right side. On the opposite side top reads "Edward Everett" with "18" on the left and "60" on the right plus the words below "And The Union." There is a narrow line of missing emulsion from 5 o'clock up to 10 0'clock but this is a very narrow sliver of loss no more than 1/16" deep at its worse point. The emulsion remains about 90% complete and the image of him is undamaged. The circle enclosing each ferrotype is pearled and the piece has a reeded edge. An extremely rare design seldom seen.
