Item Description
1978. 12x15" gold accent wood frame has mat with 7 5/8x9 7/8" opening revealing wonderful India ink, lead pencil and watercolor original art of busy office with animals at work. Includes fox using adding machine, large bird using adding machine with receipts on beak, raccoon with ledger, bird running with calculator and porcupine carrying ledgers. All are dressed in human clothes with Christmas wreath in background. Art is signed in pencil at lower right “Hilary Knight 78" and has additional inscription at lower right corner “For Jerry Gewitz In Appreciation Of All His Help”. Reverse side has actual printed Christmas card this art was done for which includes inked inscription on inside “Dear Jerry, This Is Not Inspired By Your Office-We All Know You Are A Silver Fox.” Printed text includes “Happy Holidays! Fred Keith & Associates”. Card has © The Drawing Board Inc. Dallas Texas on back and has title “Leapin’ Ledgers by Hilary Knight”. Original mat is a bit aged but art itself is Exc. Printed card has 4" diagonal piece torn off at lower right of front and just comes along. Hilary Knight is the son of artist/writer Clayton Knight who is noted for his aviation comic strips and Kathrine Sturges and was educated at the Art Students League where he studied with Reginald Marsh. Besides the Eloise books, Knight has illustrated more than 50 books for children, six of which he wrote himself. A highly detailed and superb example of Knight’s work. Ready for display.
