Item Description
The creator of the Creeper, Steve Ditko is responsible for some of the greatest comic characters that ever lived. He had spent the late fifties and early sixties working at Marvel on the mystery and horror titles that they were producing at the time. When superheroes showed up at Marvel, Ditko had a big hand in the creation of Spider-Man and also did the first 38 issues of Spider-Man’s solo title. After that long run at Marvel, he decamped from Marvel and did a spell at Charlton where he was responsible for work on the Question and Captain Atom. Around 1967, he moved over to DC and once there created more characters that were so original, they are still active in the DC Universe today. Primary among these creations was the Creeper. There was nothing normal about the Creeper. In his early appearances, he was almost psychedelic and he certainly wasn’t a team player. The series was noted for the amazing art that Ditko would create for the covers. This is the last cover he did on the title. The series only lasted one more issue after this one. (That cover was by Gil Kane). Ditko also worked on the interior art with Mike Peppe. This issue is especially notable because the story was written by Denny O’Neil. While at DC, the famed artist had also created Hawk and Dove as well as Shade the Changing Man. Ditko. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.2. (NM-). After this title’s cancellation the character stayed alive through various appearances in Brave and Bold where he developed a great relationship with Batman.
