Item Description
Featuring a brass knuckle, a blackjack, a gun, and a man tied to a chair who is obviously getting ready to take a beating, this is the very type of cover content that fueled the Senate investigations of the fifties. This cover makes it abundantly clear exactly what the title implies - there will be crime and suspense. Artist Johnny Craig perfectly balances the action so that the cover contains a lot of information, but it doesn’t feel crowded. The contents of this book include the following stories, Dead-Ringer, A Moment of Madness! (?), The Corpse in the Crematorium, and Contract for Death. There are also two text pieces, Perfect Murder and Face-to-Face. The book features the art of Johnny Craig, Graham Ingles, and Jack Kamen. This copy was taken directly from the files of the publisher of EC Comics, William M. Gaines. As a file copy, it never saw the regular route of distribution. It sat in a vault for years until Gaines decided to sell his personal collection. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.6 (NM+). According to the CGC Census, this copy is tied with one other as the second highest graded copy they have seen.
