Item Description
This book is tied with another EC title, The Crypt of Terror, as the first horror comic. In addition, this book is listed as scarce by the 2004 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. This is the first issue of the book with this title. Prior to this issue, the book was titled War against Crime. That book’s last issue was #11. This issue features a silently terrifying cover by Johnny Craig. The combination of the evil from the Middle Ages with a modern museum situation is a perfect combination for terror. The choice of yellow as the background color for the title above the scene emphasizes the underground nature of the scene below. Stories included in this issue include Portrait in Wax, The Werewolves Legend, Horror in the Night, and Terror Train. There is also a full-page house ad for Crypt of Terror #17. The issue contains two text pieces, Fingers of Death and Tooth and Fang. The letter column is titled The Vault-Keeper’s Corner. Artists who contributed to this issue include Harvey Kurtzman, Johnny Craig, and Al Feldstein. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified 8.0 (VF).
