Item Description

He is simply one of the most iconic figures ever created. Thanks to movies, television, radio and almost every other media, he is known throughout the world. His first appearance was in Detective Comics #27. It took a year, but he finally earned his own title. This is the first issue of what would become an incredibly long run. The title is still appears on newsstands today! Almost every important part of the Batman mythology is present in this issue. Aside from the great cover, the book contains the first appearance of the Joker. He appears in two stories that were originally intended for Detective Comics. The splash page for the second story actually resembles the cover to Detective Comics #40. Batman appears without Robin in a story that was actually intended for Detective Comics #38, where he fights Hugo Strange. The book also has a story that mentions where Batman lives: Manhattan. In addition, it has the first appearance of Catwoman, however in the story she is referred to as the Cat. This is the first appearance of a villainess in a comic. The back cover also has the very first Batman and Robin pin-up. Bob Kane is featured in a text piece that is accompanied by a photo and he also handles some of the interior art. The pages are off-white. The book is CGC-certified 5.0 (VG/FN). For the first five issues, the title was published quarterly. CGC lists the restoration as apparent and moderate professional. Restoration on this comic includes: color touch, spine splits, reinforcement, re-glossing.
