Item Description
First frame is 18x20.5" with double archival mat with 12x14" opening revealing lead pencil art of smiling woman. Art is unsigned c. 1930. Second frame is 13.5x17.25" with 8-7/8x12-5/8" opening revealing nicely detailed litho pencil image of woman in uniform signed "McClelland Barclay USNR". c. WWII. First original has some light dust soiling. Fine. Paper of second original has tanned with age from being in sunlight. Both overall still Fine. Barclay (1891-1942) was mainly known as an American pin up painter and worked for various magazines in the 1920s and 1930s and also did paintings for movie posters in the 1930s. He used his wife as the model for the iconic General Motors "Fischer Body Girl" in advertisements. He was made a lieutenant commander in the navy in WWII but went missing after his LST was torpedoed in the Solomon Islands in 1942.
