Item Description
5-3/8x8.5" volume 4 #5 for April 1954 has nice cover photo of Satchel Paige having just pitched ball with title at bottom "Old Satch". Magazine has 16 pages published by Peoples Artists Inc. New York City with contributors including Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson. Issue has numerous folk songs including one and a half pages devoted to "Old Satch" with words and music by Roy Lowther. Verse seven text reads "Twenty Years And More He Throws To Where The Bats Ain't, On The Nose, Strikes Out Old Jim Crows, Old Satch, Yeah Old Satch." Verse 18 reads "Satch Couldn't Pitch A Big League Game, Til We Put An End To The Jim Crow Shame, Now Put Him In The Hall Of Fame, Old Satch, Yeah Old Satch." Page two has text relating to cover photo. Pages have a few lt. handling creases here and there with trace of lt. dust soil. Overall Fine/VF. Very limited distribution. Scarce.
