Item Description
8x10" glossy photo mounted on cardboard shows 13-member team kneeling and standing with crowd in bkg. behind fence. Players are wearing uniforms for various teams including Ponce, Santurce, and San Juan. Campanella is kneeling third from right in front row near center. Photo has typewritten caption "Standing: George Scales, Markham, Gerard, Partlow, McDuffie, Lazaro Medina. In front: Butts, Williams, Jethroe, Tetelo Vargas, Campanella, Davenport, Sammy Bankhead". Lower right corner has fountain pen ink title and date as noted. Campanella would go on to great fame as a catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers between 1948 and 1957 and often played in Puerto Rico and Cuba in the winter seasons before he went in the major leagues. He played for Santurce in 1945 and San Juan in 1946 and 1947. Photo has trace of lt. surface wear but is overall Fine with a clear sharp image. See next item Roy Campanella autograph #1344.
