Item Description
Group of fifteen hand lettered and hand colored signs done by legendary Disney animator Ward Kimball for a toy and train show held at his home. All are on art board and sizes range from 5x8" to 6x19.25". Two have large "Kimball" name with arrow pointing to the right on one and arrow pointing to the left on the other. One has large number "8910" which was his street address. Others read as follows: "Displayed By Ward Kimball, Guests Only!, Please Register! Take A Button!, Toys" with arrow pointing to right and second "Toys" with arrow pointing to left, "Toy Train Display In Depot And In Studio" with arrow pointing to left, "To House For More Toys" with arrow pointing upwards, "European Manufactured Toy Locomotives For American Markets All Came With U.S. Type Cow Catchers & Bells, Knapp Electric Co Two Inch Gauge 1912 Two Rail!, Marklin O, I, 2 Gauge American Style (Clock Work) (Bells Plus Cow-Catchers), Steam Train Display French, German, American, English (All Spirit Fired)" and "Restroom Just Inside" with arrow pointing to right. Also includes four small paper strips with miscellaneous text including "Chein Floor Trolley 1920s". Signs appear to be c. 1980s-1990s and have scattered lt. wear here and there as some were placed outside. Overall group is Fine/VF. Ward Kimball (1914-2002) is recognized as one of Disney's Nine Old Men. He's credited with creating Disney characters including Jiminy Cricket, the crows in Dumbo, the Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, and the mice and Lucifer the cat from Cinderella. His "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom" won an Academy Award and he received an Academy Award for "It's Tough To Be A Bird". He also lead the seven piece Disneyland band "Firehouse Five Plus Two" in which he played trombone. His toy train and early toy collection was legendary and close to his heart. Unique one-of-a-kind items to go with any Disney collection. Comes with a sheet of stationery on "Grizzly Flats Railroad" letterhead typewritten and dated September 26, 2010 verifying that these items are authentic and purchased from his parents' estate signed in ink by his son John Kimball.
