Item Description
12.5x22.5" thin art board has 11x21" India ink and litho crayon original art with four different images of heavyweight contender Tony Galento in four different scenes. Center image shows him having just knocked down heavyweight champion Joe Louis, upper left shows him in future fight with Lou Nova, upper right is closeup of Galento saying “I’ll Take This Nova Guy An’ Bend Him All Outta Shape” and center bottom has smaller image of Galento getting ready to fight with text “When Two Ton Tony Waddles Out Of His Corner Something’s Gotta Give-Yea! Give ‘Til It Hurts-“. Art is signed at upper right Hal Coffman with ink stamp date of August 28, 1939 on reverse. Likely done for Coffman’s newspaper The Philadelphia Inquirer. Board has some dust soil with bit of wear around blank margins. Image area will mat and frame to Fine appearance. The Galento-Nova fight was one of the dirtiest and bloodiest ever fought. Nova was knocked down five times and was finally knocked out in the 14th round. Galento retired from boxing in 1943 and became a professional wrestler and movie actor w/ films including “On The Waterfront”. Well drawn.
