Item Description
2-5/16" tall with silvered brass shell eagle pin at the top. The eagle's left wing has lost some silver luster but well over 2/3rds remain. Glued to the reverse is the original fabric ribbon which joins to a very high relief brass shell frame accented around the perimeter by eagle, flags, and ribbon carrying the inscription "E Pluribus Unum." The oval center is highly raised and holds a beautiful ferrotype portrait of Grant in military uniform. The only flaw on the ferrotype is a tiny 1/16" speck missing from above his head. For an additional example of this frame see Lincoln item #176. Exc. condition overall. Rare.
