Item Description
This great 1.5" celluloid button has a backpaper from McKinley's hometown and it reads "Novelty Button Co. Canton, O. Copyrighted." The button pictures McKinley on his famous front porch with him seated in an elaborate bent wood chair. He is dressed in very formal attire which includes overcoat and top hat. He is seated holding a large newspaper and looking directly at the camera. The text on the button is light in contrast but with careful viewing all can be read without magnification although magnification does certainly help. The photo is captioned below "McKinley At Home." Above the photo are three extensive lines of text reading "I Believe It Is A Good Deal Better To Open Up The Mills Of The United States To The Labor Of America Than To Open Up The Mints Of The United States To The Silver Of The World." To the left of McKinley's hat, in reflected light there is a short .25" indentation line in the celluloid but this is very minor and is really mentioned just for total accuracy. The button remains totally clean and glossy. The item is listed in Hake as McKinley #292 with 2004 value of $545. An essential button for any McKinley specialist or serious collector of classic buttons. Morry Greener Collection.
