Item Description
This exceedingly rare 1.25" button has backpaper of maker Western Badge and Novelty Co. St. Paul, Minn. They produced this button for a local political club and the full text reads "The Original Roosevelt Club Of America/St. Paul/Organized April 24 1900." At the center is a wonderful profile photo of TR with "USV" military initials clearly visible on his uniform collar and there are crossed sabers insignia on both his collar and the side of his iconic upturned hat brim. This photo seems to be unique to this and the following two buttons. In the Hake Guide two volumes that include TR items, there is no other item using this same photo. The celluloid has numerous, but virtual pinpoint, air dots underneath as made and showing only when held in certain angles of reflected light. With normal viewing none of these show whatsoever. The button is essentially Mint as made. In addition to the following two related buttons also see related St. Paul Original Roosevelt Rough Riders 1901 inaugural jugate ribbon badge #225 and St. Paul GOP convention McKinley/TR/Van Sant trigate on ribbon badge #224. This is the only example of this button known to us.
