Item Description
After WWI there was a federal law titled World War Adjusted Compensation Act, commonly known as the 'Bonus Act', which granted a benefit to veterans. The Act provided additional pay in various forms but only limited payments in the short term. Most veterans received their bonus in the form of a certificate that could not be redeemed until 1945. With the advent of the Great Depression many war veterans were out of work and by 1932 they were organized and demanding immediate cash payment for their certificates. In 1932, some 43,000 marchers comprised of 17,000 WWI veterans and their families became known as the Bonus Army and marched on Washington, among their leaders was Father Cox, see item #148 as well as the following item. This item is a 1" button with no maker name. Outer edge reads "Official/Ex-Service Men's Cooperative League." Center text reads "I Favor Service Men's Bonus/Stand By The Boys." Trivial oxidation on reverse. Clean and displaying Mint.
