Item Description
Each button is 2.25". These are from the Marshall Levin Collection and the portrait button has his inked date on reverse of "1983." On September 1, 1983, over the Sea of Japan, Soviet interceptors shot down the civilian airliner designed "Flight 007." All 269 passengers and crew were killed included Lawrence McDonald, a member of the United States Congress. The aircraft was flying from New York City to Seoul via Anchorage when it strayed into prohibited Soviet air space at the time of a planned missile test. After initially denying knowledge, the Soviet Union later admitted shooting the aircraft down, claiming it was on a spy mission. The first of these buttons pictures Congressman McDonald. The second button reads "Remember Flight 007/Proud Russian Generals Shoot Civilians In The Back." Buttons are NM displaying Mint. Comes with Hake's COA. Scarce.
