Item Description
The Liberty Bell was long a symbol used by anti-slavery groups during the 19th century. The symbol was also used by the woman suffrage movement in the early 1900s. In 1915, Katherine Ruschenberger commissioned a bell maker to create a replica of the Liberty Bell to further the cause of the Suffrage Amendment. This bell became known the "Woman's Liberty Bell" as printed on the reverse of this 1.5" tall brass watch fob. The piece is particular to Pennsylvania as during the summer of 1915 the bell was displayed in every county of the state. The clapper of the bell was chained so that the bell could not be rung and would be unchained only when women received the right to vote. Front of this piece has couple of small marks where the luster is missing but well over 95% of the luster remains on the front and even more on the reverse. Reverse is marked with name of maker W&H. Complete with its original leather strap.
