Item Description
1.75". Du Bois Clubs were named for William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, turn of the century civil right activist. In the mid to late 1960s, these clubs represented the youth wing of the Communist Party USA. This button is likely from 1964. It reads "For The Freedom To Build Our Future In Peace/Du Bois Clubs Convention/Chicago In June." This was a proposed convention for Chicago to establish a new national youth organization, but the Coordinating Committee switched the national convention to San Fransisco June 19-21, 1964. There were anti-war and civil rights demonstrations resulting in 395 arrests. Exc. and displays Mint.
