Item numbers 1 through 1446 in auction 204
Item Description
40.5x52.75" vintage wood frame has double archival mat with non-glare glass and 28.5x40" opening for event held in Massachusetts. Top portion has art image of eagle with Latin text on ribbon scroll which translates to "Liberty And His Native Soil". Center has image of Native American holding bow and rabbit he just caught. Lengthy text is divided into three sections entirely in a humorous vein. The Buildings Of Any Respectable Size, Along The Route Of The Procession, Will Be Largely Decorated And The Stars And Stripes Will Blend In Harmonious Unison With The Red Cross Or Johnny Bull, While The Confederate Rag And The Bloody Shirt Will Be Displayed At Half-Mast. The Best Of Order Will Be Observed. By Consent Of His Excellency Gov. Rice The Notorious Mulligan Guards Have Been Detailed As Special Police And Will Clear The Plank Sidewalk Of Loafers, Bummers And Nightwalkers Of Both Sexes." Text at bottom "P.S. Should It Rain, Umbrellas Will Be Furnished By The Overseers Of The Poor. Don't You Forget It." Broadside is printed on large newsprint by the "Sun Office" and has three horizontal and one vertical fold with small bits of paper missing here and there along fold lines, eagle image at top is missing .75x1.75" piece. Edges of frame are worn on front covering. Despite problems, still displays Fine as framed. Wonderful humor which has to be read in its entirety to be full appreciated.
